About Laka

Started in 2017, Laka set out to transform bicycle insurance by connecting passionate cyclists all over Europe to form a community and protect their bikes. A better model for insurance was born through their revolutionary method and their 5-star rated customer service. Now with the Gazelle partnership, you are covered on your new Connect bike for 12 months too.

What is covered by the insurance?

The Gazelle Connect customers will benefit from 12 months (from activation) of complimentary Theft Insurance. This means that you are covered for recovery, replacement, and necessary repair of your bike in the event your bike is stolen. Details on this can be seen here.

How do I activate my insurance?

After buying your Gazelle Connect Bike at your preferred dealership, download and open the the Gazelle Connect App. Click “Activate Now” on the Laka Tile on your dashboard, and fill in your contact details. Once you agree to the terms & conditions the Laka Theft Insurance will automatically be added to your profile and be active at no extra cost for the first 12 months.

What happens after 12 months?

We’ll be in touch when your 12 months are coming to an end to remind you that you can continue to insure your bike with Laka. As a Gazelle customer, you will benefit from favourable pricing with Laka, and we can help you choose one of our range of bike insurance products to suit your needs.

What if I am under 18 years old?

If you have a Gazelle Connect bike that you would like to insure with Laka but happen to be under 18 years old, we do require an over-18-year-old guardian or parent to activate the insurance on your behalf. To do so please have them fill out their contact details when activating your Laka insurance in the Gazelle Connect App.

What bikes can I add to my insurance?

You can add as many Gazelle Connect bikes as you like via your Gazelle App. This offer and setup is exclusive to Gazelle Connect and you cannot add other types of bikes that aren’t Gazelle Connect bikes.

What if I do not activate my insurance?

The 12-month complimentary Laka Theft Insurance offer will expire 30 days after your purchase of a Gazelle Connect Bike and will not ever be made available again. If your offer expires, you can get in touch with Laka to organise insurance for your bike, but you would not benefit from the mentioned offer. However, you are more than welcome to contact the Laka team to set up your own insurance directly with us, independently from Gazelle.

What if I cancel my insurance before the 12 months end?

You will not be able to reactivate your 12 months of complimentary insurance or “pick up where I left off”. However, you can independently sign up for your own Laka insurance directly with our team.

locking and storage

How can I keep my Bike safe?

If you want to leave your bike unattended in a public space you need to use a second lock in addition to the fixed ring lock, which complies with one of the below ratings:

  • ABUS (security 10 or higher)
  • VdS approved (A+ or B+) (AXA hiplock, Kryptonite, Linka (with a chain), Master lock, Texlock, Trelock)
  • ART (category 2 or higher)
  • FUB (2 wheels or higher)
  • Sold Secure Silver (or Gold)
  • U-Lock Onguard
  • SRA

Meeting these requirements is also the only way we can legally process your claim.

What is meant by “home”?

Your home is the address where your bicycle is usually kept as shown on your policy schedule.

Your home must be a private storage location.

A private storage location is a secure, locked location, the access to which is controlled solely by you.

If you’re travelling with your bike, we’ll consider wherever you’re staying to be your home temporarily for up to 120 days.

Is my bike covered in my shed/garage?

Yes, your bike is covered when stored in a locked shed or garage provided it’s private, secure, and locked. You can find more information on this in your policy wording.

If you’re not sure about where you keep your bike, you can contact us via Live Chat by hitting the speech bubble in the bottom left of our website.

Recovery

Who is going to recover my bike?

Laka is working with local recovery companies and authorities to ensure the best possible attempt at recovering your bike. When you report a theft in your app, your bike will be frozen / inactive, and the bike recovery team will take over. Recovered bikes will be handed over to a police station and Laka will inform you via email where to go and pick it up from.

What if my bike is not recovered?

In the unfortunate case that our recovery partner has been unable to locate and recover your bike within the 48 hour period, we will email you to guide you through the process of raising a claim and start the process of reimbursing you for the stolen bike.
